Which ETF Is Right For You?

Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are a very exciting (and profitable) investment vehicle that I’ve studied over the past number of weeks.  Why put all my eggs (investment risk) into one basket with an individual stock when I can spread my eggs into many baskets using one ETF?  What does this mean?  Simply put, an ETF is a basket of stocks in a given sector or index.  For example, XLF is an ETF that holds financial stocks; and its’ major holdings are American Express, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo, just to name a few.  When I buy a share of XLF, I’m actually buying into a basket of stocks from these different financial institutions.  If one of these institutions does poorly, it will have little effect on the price of the overall ETF.  Whereas, if I had bought an individual stock and it performed poorly, I could lose my shirt!

Would you like to take a look at an ETF and see what holdings it has?  I’d suggest going to http://finance.yahoo.com/ .  You can then look up an ETF, say XLF:  http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=xlf Here you can look up the profile, performance and holdings of each ETF.  In the above mentioned ETF, I stated some of the holdings for XLF.  I found this information here: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/hl?s=XLF+Holdings.  This list includes the top ten holdings in each ETF.

There are many ETFs for different sectors and indices.  How is one to know what to select for their portfolio?  This is one of the areas that we will focus on in the ETF course that we are preparing at  http://InvestorsHELP.net!  Sectors include Financial, Energy, Utilities, Technology, Material, Consumer Staples, Consumer discreet select, Industrial and Healthcare.  Indexes that we’ll look at are Dow Jones, Nasdaq, Russell 2000, S&P 500, to name a few.

If you want to continue to follow my journey on learning how to profit in the financial markets, please check back to this blog soon!  I’ll keep you updated on my progress.

Happy Returns,

Cindy

For Newbies -- How to Use Price Cycles

Hi Fellow Traders and Investors,

Now that we are back from our trip to Seattle, we worked over the weekend to get our computer up and running once again.  A conflict between some security software and my network connection sure caused alot of problems that took several hours of analysis.

As many of you know, I am working with my daughter (Novice_Trader_Cindy) to teach her how to trade and invest profitably in the financial markets.  She is now in her second month of training and is making excellent progress.  Today, during our daily training session, I covered the subject of "price cycles" and their importance to the newbie.

Part of this session was recorded so that Cindy could review this lesson several times as needed.  This video is somewhat "rough" in that it was not prewritten and therefore is not a polished product.  However, I think that this will be an excellent learning tool for you to use to get up to speed on the subject of price cycles.

This video is for newbies (new to trading and investing in the financial markets).  No matter what timeframe you use on price charts, it is very important to watch and understand that there are always "price cycles."  This video will help you understand what these are, how to find them and most important, how to profit in your trading and investing by using these cycles for entry and exit signals.

This FREE video can be found here for your education:  PRICE CYCLES VIDEO

Day Off For My Birthday?

10/6/2014

Now that I am a "senior citizen" the years seem to fly by very quickly.  Another birthday, so time to take a break from loading more content to my FREE subscribers at InvestorsHELP.net, and spend some time with family and friends.

One of my goals for today is to have several Diet Cokes before the day is over?  Why you ask?  About 4 years ago I gave up soda expect for my birthday.  Seems I was drinking too much of it and my sugar levels started to rise. So as part of my "corrective action program" I gave up delicious sodas except on my birthday.  My habit of drinking soda evolved over several years when I noticed that I was drinking 3 or 4 glasses of soda when I started with only one.

Now that it has been several years, I don't miss soda too much except when I have a hamburger and fries.....brings back so many happy memories of my interesting teenager years.

Now when I take my grandkids to McDonalds, they drink chocolate milk and apple juice, a better alternative than soda, I hope!

On Friday, after picking up 2 of our 7 grandkids from school, I took a short video of them playing around with the "Coke" drink at McDonalds; made my mouth water since I new that Oct. 6 was only a few days off.  Now it is here, so let's get some "Diet Coke."

Be back soon with more reports and lists for your education.

Birthday Joe

Will I ThinkorSwim (TOS)?  A New Trader in the Making…

From The Desk of Novice_Trader_Cindy

It’s hard to believe, my first month has already passed.  I’m a learner by nature, so I’ve loved researching and watching YouTube videos to learn about the stock market as I begin my journey to become a successful trader and investor.  There’s boundless information available on the web!  Some great, some not worth a moment of my time.  It’s been a long process weeding through it all.

For me, learning comes easiest when I’m actually putting my new skills to practice.  I can read about it, but until I actually try it, I haven’t really begun to learn.  Last week I was SO excited to load the software ThinkorSwim (TOS) platform onto my computer.  Trader_Joe uses this platform on a regular basis and felt it’s the perfect platform for me to learn first.  This platform is offered “free of charge” with an Ameritrade account.   The awesome thing about opening an Ameritrade account is I didn’t have to sink a bundle of cash into the account to get it going.  It’s a great option for a novice trader!  You can check it out at http://ameritrade.com

I discovered that the ThinkorSwim platform offers tutorials to assist you in the learning process.  They offer a complete “Learning Center” with video demonstrations, live and archived seminars and the handy “thinkManual.”  All of these resources are located at: http://tlc.thinkorswim.com/center.html?utm_source=thinkorswim&utm_medium=helppage&utm_campaign=HelpPage

I will share more information with you on some of the many features available at TOS in my next blog article.  It’s so much FUN!   I’m just like my husband who purchases a new tool but doesn’t read the instructions.  He often says: “Why bother reading the instructions, when you can play around and figure it out yourself?!  Well, I’ve played around and finally come to the conclusion (as my husband always does too), it’s more efficient to read the instructions, tutorials, etc. and come up to speed as quickly as possible in this way!  So going through ThinkorSwim tutorials is on my hit list for this week!

Happy Returns,

Novice_Cindy
