The Excitement Begins – A New Trader in the Making, Starts Next Week

Next week, I start the journey of learning to trade ETFs.  I will use YouTube and other free resources to learn, capturing the experience in this blog, and sharing with you at InvestorsHELP.net.  My mentor, Trader_Joe (TJ), will lead, guide and direct my learning process.  What’s so awesome about having TJ as my mentor, he has over 30 years of investing and trading experience, sharing his knowledge with others through presentations, consulting and his FREE website: InvestorsHELP.net.   Though the very best part of having TJ as my mentor is he’s my Dad!  I’m so totally excited about taking this learning journey with him by my side!

My Dad, thorough as he is, has laid out a plan on how I will start this journey.  We’ve had e-mails and phone calls over the past few weeks in preparation for this adventure beginning in September.  The more we’ve communicated, the more my excitement builds!  So here it is, the last Friday in August and I’m sitting at my desk in my office anticipating next week.  All of a sudden, I have a Skype call coming in.  TJ was calling so I could watch the opening of the stock market with him.  How cool is that?  TJ picked a stock that he owns, SSYS, and we watched as the market opened.  We saw a very nice move up based on news releases from last night and this morning.

“Green is good , the stock is up; red is bad, the stock is down…”  the first note I wrote in my notebook.  “Fibonacci retracements,” “walls of resistance,” “candlesticks” and many other unusual terms were used by TJ.  Need I even say how exciting it was?  I could already see how someone could easily get sucked into analyzing the trends in stocks!

Come with me on my journey as I learn to trade. Perhaps you too would like to learn with me?  I will be sharing with you again next week here at InvestorsHELP.net, so stay tuned.  Have a wonderful holiday weekend.

Happy Returns,

Novice_Trader_Cindy

Hi fellow investors and traders.  I have two sets of new videos that I will be making available to you this weekend as part of our Weekend Warriors Newsletter.

This past week I attended the August 2014 meeting of the Computerized Investing (CI) and Mechanical Investing (MI) Group of Silicon Valley.  I will be sharing 2 videos from our group leader, Al Zmyslowski, as he reviews various subjects and happenings since our last meeting.

In addition, I will be loading 3 videos from this same meeting entitled:  "Financial Bubbles" by CC Lin.  This is a very informative presentation in which CC shares with us his thoughts for identifying a financial bubble, and what we could do in advance of the bubble popping.  He definitely has several excellent ideas as to what we can do in these situations to protect our financial interests.  CC also shares his ideas and encouragement to seek out other markets throughout the world when we are experiencing a bubble in the US financial markets.  Excellent food for thought.

Perhaps you are wondering why I have included a picture of a truck loading a large dumpster?  This video is for "stress relief" especially when the financial markets cannot decide where they want to go.  I shot this video earlier today from my office window and thought that some of our subscribers might enjoy relaxing for a couple of minutes and watch a large truck at work.  This might be a fun video to share with your children and grandchildren.  Don't know about you, but I still like watching large trucks in action....reminds me of my childhood so many years ago when I played with my toy trucks in the mud:-)

Here's the link for you to check it out:

"How to Solve the Retirement Crisis" by Erin Condit

Hi fellow SectorSurfer users.  Today I am very pleased to provide this most informative article from Erin Condit of SumGrowth.com.  We hope that this is only the first of many additional articles that we will receive in the future from Erin.  Learn, profit and enjoy from this excellent article created for us by Erin Condit.....thank you Erin.

(Seattle, WA) — Twenty-five years ago, Scott Juds discovered that, after annually putting $2000 into his IRA over seven years, he had less money that he would have had had he simply stuffed his mattress full of bills. Fund and advisor fees, cost of living/inflation adjustments and poor performance had conspired against him during a time when the S&P 500 more than doubled. That was Scott's wakeup call, the day he began his quest to create a better investment management system than the dogma promoted by the financial industry — the “diversify and rebalance” mantra of  Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT).

Armed with a MSEE from Stanford University, Scott, the named inventor on more than 40 US and foreign patents, had already made a career of zeroing in on the fundamental signals within a mass of “noisy” data and, in fact, wrote a book on this important subject. Through a great deal of trial and error over the years that followed, Scott created True Sector Rotation Theory, then automated it with an online software application called SectorSurfer at SumGrowth.com to enable anyone to access his egalitarian program. SectorSurfer offers free investment strategies of lesser performance (<15%/year) for those who can't afford to pay, and premium performance investment strategies (>15%/year) at $10/mo. In this way, Scott and his partners hope to "change the game" for individual investors by leveling the algorithmic playing field with Wall Street and giving the middle class a fighting chance for 401k/IRA/portfolio success.

Early development: Scott began his quest after noting that Edwin Hurst, the engineer who built the Aswan Dam high and wide enough to handle the most flood prone river in the world, had detected trends embedded in the 2000 years of Nile River flow data using mathematics he had developed - the "Hurst Range Scale analysis." What Scott found was that trending characteristics in market data were also easily confirmed by employing Hurst's formula. Additionally, Scott observed that through his professional skills in the sciences of differential signal processing and matched filter theory, he could optimally extract trend signals from complex market data, a fact that flies in the face of Modern Portfolio Theory. In the process, he discovered that the “true” trend signal was the key to improving the probability of owning the right stock or fund in the near future, i.e., 30 days to three months. The development of True Sector Rotation Theory resulted and is at the core of SectorSurfer's automated algorithms.

Erin's article goes into greater depth providing a variety of additional information as follows:
1. The birth of a company,
2. The dinosaur in the room,
3. Proof,

4. How SectorSurfer actually works,
5. 401ks,
6. Crowd-source investment strategies,
7. Why SectorSurfer is needed and important,

S&P Continuing UP?

I'm back from a reunion of my wife's family in Pasadena and Oxnard, CA last week.  It was great fun to meet and greet cousins and other relatives from throughout the US and The Philippines.  We had a wonderful time eating too much, relaxing and not worrying about the markets.  But now we're back, so let's see what happened while we were away.

The S&P 500 was up 0.3% last week. On Tuesday, the market suffered another distribution day, which had Investors Business Daily (IBD) call the market "in correction". Friday brought a large up day, but on light volume. Friday is considered a reversal day, so the market is technically in "rally attempt mode" right now. A follow through day is necessary to have the market go back into "confirmed rally".

Geopolitics (primarily Ukraine) seemed to dominate the market sentiment last week more so than economic data. Productivity numbers were substantially better than what economists had expected.  It came in at 2.5% for Q2 while the consensus estimate was 1.5%.   Productivity growth is important as it impacts corporate profits. The higher productivity, the higher corporate profits tend to be.  Of course, if the economy were to shrink, corporate profits can still decline despite growing productivity.

Factory orders, initial claims, trade deficit (revised numbers) all came in better than expected.
One reason why EPS for the market as a whole has remained relatively stable, despite rising stock prices, has been the share buy backs that mostly large publicly traded companies have implemented.
Covered call positions have continued to perform well during this bouncy market.

Since we are in correction territory, I will not add to my holdings until we enter a "confirmed rally".  My rules allow me to establish up to two new holdings during a follow through day.  Although I am not updating my watch list during a market that is in correction, I will draw from my existing watch list once the market returns to confirmed rally mode.

Good luck this week,
Trader_Joe
